Future Agricultures Consortium

Since 2005, the Future Agricultures Consortium has built a dynamic partnership between leading African and UK institutions, developed a strong evidence base for policy influencing around a set of themes and engaged with agricultural policy processes at global, national and local levels.

The Future Agricultures’ website features research, resources and news from the  Consortium and its partners. Upcoming events are featured, while FAC working and briefi ng papers, ‘Hot Topics’ and ‘Debates’ cover the latest thinking on agricultural
development in Africa.

Researchers from 11 independent organisations across East and Southern Africa and the UK are members of the Future Agricultures Consortium.

Initially work has focused on Ethiopia, Kenya, and Malawi, but the Consortium plans to expand to work in West Africa soon.

Consortium research explores: how to link social protection and agricultural production in integrated development efforts; what a ministry of agriculture for the 21st century might look like and the challenges for reform; how agriculture and growth are linked through diverse pathways of agricultural commercialisation; and how to make agricultural science and technology work for the poor.

The Future Agricultures Consortium is supported by the UK Department for International Development.
