Vashee, Ajay
Ajay Vashee was the president of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP), a global network of farmer organizations. Elected in 2008, he was the first president from a developing country (Zambia) in IFAP's 62-year history. He previously served as the IFAP vice president (2006-2008), leading work on environmental issues. Vashee is also the founding president of the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU), which represents 14 national farmers' organizations in southern Africa. He is currently the Honorary President of SACAU. Previously, he served as president of the Zambia National Farmers’ Union, where he united diverse national farming interests under its umbrella for the first time in the nation’s history. Ajay Vashee is a dairy and crop farmer with a dairy processing operation in Zambia and has been involved in organized agriculture for more than 26 years. In addition to this he is on the Advisory Boards of several organizations and companies and serves as a Board member to several companies in Zambia from Electrical utilities, Hotels to Fertilizer manufacturing. Vashee has been involved with trade negotiations for his members at the WTO and at a Regional level and is married with two children.
