Mario

Mario Allegri holds a B.Sc. in Agronomy from University of Republic of Uruguay, an M.Sc. in Range Ecology from New Mexico State University, USA, and a Ph.D. in Resource Development from Michigan State University, USA.

Dr Allegri has 40 years of expertise in the area of organizational development and leadership of agricultural research policies, with an emphasis on sustainable development. He began as a researcher in forages and then moved on to become the Director of La Estanzuela and the Northern Experiment Station and later, the National Director of the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), Uruguay. At INIA, he is presently responsible for international institutional representation.

Dr Allegri is President of the Forum for the Americas on Agricultural Research and Technology Development (FORAGRO), member of the Steering Committee of GFAR, representative of the Regional Fora in the Executive Committee, ExCo CGIAR, member of the Bureau of the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), member of the Southern Advisory Group, SAG in the Steering Committee of UE Initiative ERA-ARD, member of the Institutional and Technical Articulation Committee of the Cooperative Program for Agricultural Research Southern Cone Countries of America (PROCISUR) and member of the Board of Directors of FUNEA and SUPCYT, Uruguayan organizations related to science and technology.

He has been actively involved in international cooperation activities and also in writing agricultural research publications.
